Minette A. Kwok, a Partner with Minami Tamaki LLP, is a Certified Specialist in Immigration and Nationality Law, designated by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Her practice focuses primarily on business immigration, representing start ups and Fortune 500 companies in the IT, finance, engineering, and manufacturing industries, as well as non-profit organizations, working closely with corporate executives and human resources personnel to meet their strategic immigration needs. Ms. Kwok also represents individuals, including international athletes, world renowned scientists, and Buddhist monks, as well as individuals with family based immigration needs. Ms. Kwok has been a member of the California Bar since 1991, and is a member of the United States District Court, Northern District of California and the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Kwok received her undergraduate education at the University of California at Berkeley, graduating with a B.A. with High Honors. She received her law degree from the University of San Francisco in 1990. Ms. Kwok is an active participant in the national immigration bar, having served as a Commissioner with the State Bar of California's Board of Legal Specialization's Immigration and Nationality Law Advisory Commission for three years, as a member of the Executive Board of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Northern California; as Liaison to the Department of Labor, Region IX; as Liaison to USCIS; and as Chair of AILA Northern California for 2004/2005. She has been named a Northern California SuperLawyer for three years in a row now by Law & Politics Magazine, an industry wide poll which identifies the top 5% of attorneys in their field. Ms. Kwok is frequently invited to speak at local, regional and national conferences and panels. Ms. Kwok has participated widely in community affairs. She was Executive Director of Asian Legal Services Outreach in Sacramento, California, Board member of the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans, and Chair of the Committee for Immigration Justice, an organization promoting fair and inclusive immigration legislation. She currently sits on the Board of the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies at the University of California at Hastings School of Law. She has spoken extensively at public forums and community events on behalf of immigrants. Ms. Kwok has been awarded an AV rating by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest rating for competence and ethics issued by that publication, and reserved for attorneys designated as outstanding in their field.
