Peter Simpson

Attorney at Law

I graduated with honors from Gonzaga University School of Law in 2006; Juris Doctorate, Cum Laude (top 14%). I was an Associate Editor of the Gonzaga Journal of International Law, on the Deans List Fall 2005 and Spring 2006, and a recipient of a merit scholarship for all three years. I was admitted to practice by the Washington State Supreme Court on November 21, 2006. I am a member of the Washington State Bar Association, the Island County Bar Association, and the Washington Defender Association.

Immediately after admission to practice I was hired as a Deputy Prosecutor for Island County, WA. Over the course of the next four years I was directly responsible for the prosecution of all gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor offenses, including hundreds of DUI and Domestic Violence Assault cases. I developed a robust courtroom practice and presence, and fought vigorously for my client, the citizens of Island County. I was soon promoted to be the juvenile criminal prosecutor, and developed a comprehensive, rehabilitative, and collaborative approach to the position. In addition, I was the prosecutor responsible for the adult and juvenile drug courts, helping people work through the criminal justice system by identifying and addressing substance abuse issues as an alternative to incarceration.

Having worked as a criminal defense attorney during law school, I came to a point where I realized I was naturally better suited to defense work. I took a position as a felony defense attorney at a private firm under contract with Island County to represent indigent defendants. Over the next two years I successfully resolved hundreds of felony cases on terms that were, almost always, better than the terms originally proposed by the prosecutor's office. Many times I was able to get the charges dismissed outright after investigation, analysis, and sending notice to the prosecutor the reasons for dismissal.

And now, solo private practice. Over the last seven years I have analyzed, investigated, and successfully argued over 1000 criminal cases. As a trial attorney, I have brought to a favorable jury verdict many low and high-visibility criminal trials. If you are looking for a criminal trial attorney with extensive experience and exceptional academic credentials, give me a call.
