Cal Potter

Cal Potter is an AV rated attorney who has practiced personal injury, criminal defense and police misconduct cases in Las Vegas, Nevada for over 30 years.  He has also been admitted on a case by case basis in what is known as a pro hac vice basis in the Federal Courts in the Northern District of California (San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose); Sourthern District of California (San Diego) Central District (Los Angeles) and Eastern District (Fresno).  Arizona (Phoenix) and  New York (Brooklyn) and State Superior Courts in Los Angeles County, Marin County and Alameda County.

Mr. Potter is one of the few attorneys in Nevada who has obtained a not guilty verdict in a First Degree Murder case and a million dollar verdict in a personal injury case.  Mr. Potter has also obtained a not gulity verdict in the Federal District Court in Las Vegas on the hand to hand sale of 20 kilos of cocaine on an entrapment defense.  Mr. Potter has also been class counsel in three prison condition cases and one jail case in Clark County, Nevada.  Mr. Potter has handled many jail suicide cases in Nevada and California, as well as wrongful death actions against the jails in North Las Vegas, Henderson, Clark County Detention Center and San Mateo, California.  He has also been counsel in wrongful death cases alleging excessive force against the Santa Rosa Police Department, San Jose Police Department, the Glendale, Arizona Police Department.

Mr. Potter has an active appellate practice and has argued many civil and criminal cases in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, Pasadena and Phoenix.  In 1993, Mr. Potter argued a death penalty case in front of the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. and argued an en banc criminal case in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals before 15 Judges where he successfully challenged the conviction of a client on what is known as a traveler case.  The case has been the subject of numerous articles as well as a case not in the Harvard Law Review.
