The Redlich Law Firm

Our law firm handles two major areas: Personal Injury and Criminal Defense

Within our personal injury practice, most of our cases involve car accidents, motorcycle accidents, and truck accidents. We tend to take cases where the injuries are serious, typically where our client suffered a fracture or underwent surgery as a result of the accident. Our biggest case involved an amputation, with a verdict of $3.85 million. Please note that prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.

We prefer to move our personal injury cases quickly. Some attorneys may wait more than two years to start a lawsuit, hoping to settle without going through the work involved in starting the litigation. We feel that cases are more likely to settle quickly and favorably if the insurance company is forced to defend the lawsuit. Even with this effort, many cases take more than a year to get resolved.

Our criminal defense practice covers most types of crimes, ranging from the simplest traffic ticket to the most serious felonies, including federal criminal defense (often involving drugs or border-crossing issues). We handle New York State speeding tickets in most of the state, from Westchester and Rockland to Plattsburgh, and all the way out past Buffalo. Some of these involve high speeds, reckless driving, or aggravated unlicensed operation (driving with a suspended license).

We handle a substantial number of drunk driving cases. When the blood-alcohol content (BAC) is below 0.08, the police usually charge the defendant with DWAI. Often the prosecutor will not agree to reduce a DWAI to something "out of alcohol", so we fight many of these cases. The low BAC makes these cases difficult for prosecutors. By fighting we may be able to negotiate a better deal, or get the case dismissed.

When the BAC is between 0.08 and 0.17, the charge will usually be DWI. This is also the charge when there is no BAC. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 or higher. We may be able to negotiate reductions but we usually fight these cases too. As with DWAI, fighting the case can lead to a better result. When fighting cases with a BAC over 0.08, our client will often face significant limitations on their ability to drive (but will almost always be able to drive to and from work). We also handle felony DWI cases.

Other criminal cases we see frequently include marijuana possession, grand larceny and petit larceny (shoplifting), weapons possession and harassment.
