Mr. Mendel's legal career has included handling a diverse range of matters including structuring cross-border IP transactions, IPR protection strategies, technology licensing, software registrations, data and privacy protection, government software procurement, franchising arrangments, and strategies for structuring investments in heavily regulated sectors of the Chinese economy. He has advised on venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, and direct investments in China.

Mr. Mendel received his B.A. degree from Pomona College in 1988. He received his J.D. degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1994, where he was a Managing Editor of the Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal. He concurrently received an M.A. in International Studies (China) from the University of Washington School of International Studies. During 1992 and 1993 he spent six months at National Taiwan University conducting graduate research in land and constitutional reform. He received an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1996.
A native of Seattle, Washington, Mr. Mendel is admitted to practice in the States of Washington and New York. He speaks and reads Mandarin Chinese.
