Stuart's practice is focussed on Employment Law. He advises clients with respect to issues such as employment policies and procedures, hiring, employment agreements, human rights issues, drug and alcohol policies, restrictive covenants, discipline and terminations. Stuart also represents clients before courts, mediators and tribunals. At every stage, Stuart advises and represents his clients in a manner designed to achieve practical, cost-effective solutions. Recently, Stuart represented the Human Resources Professionals of Ontario at the Supreme Court of Canada in a case that is widely-regarded as the most important employment law case of the last decade. Stuart speaks and writes extensively on employment law and litigation topics. He - responds to reader questions in the Ask an Expert column of Canadian Employment Law Today, - contributes regularly to the Canadian Human Resources Reporter, Globe and Mail, National Post, Law Times and Lawyers Weekly, and - speaks at programs put on by organizations including Osgoode Professional Development, the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario, the B.C. Human Resources Management Association, the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association and others. Stuart has also been interviewed on television, radio and in print. In recent years, Stuart has also acted as a mediator in employment-related disputes. He has assisted parties and their counsel to reach a resolution. Stuart believes that an understanding of a client’s circumstances and concerns is vital to providing them with quality legal advice. He prides himself on maintaining regular contact with his clients to ensure they understand the legal process and the options available to them at all times. His focus is the bottom line: helping clients to maximize results while minimizing costs.
