Law Practice Dennis Westlind practices in the firm’s Labor and Employment practice group. He represents employers and management in all areas of employment and labor law. Dennis represents employers in both state and federal court as well as before administrative agencies such as the EEOC and the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLl), the National Labor Relations Board, and in both private and public arbitrations. His cases have included issues involving wrongful discharge, harassment, workplace torts, wage and hour disputes, workplace violence and discrimination. His practice also includes counseling employers on all aspects of employment-related issues. Dennis has substantial experience in drafting and reviewing employee handbooks, conducting investigations, training workers and regularly advising employers on the day-to-day administration of employment law. Professional Activities Member, American Bar Association, Multnomah Bar Association. Speaking Engagements Dennis frequently speaks on employment and labor law issues, including state and federal family leave, state and federal wage and hour issues, effective supervisory practices, appropriate workplace conduct, and employment discrimination. He most recently addressed an audience of attorneys and human resources professionals on recent developments in harassment and discrimination law. Prior Experience Prior to joining Stoel Rives in 2005, Dennis was an associate in the Labor & Employment group at Tonkon Torp LLP in Portland, Oregon. While attending law school, Dennis was an intern at the Federal Defender Office assisting in the defense of indigent persons accused of federal misdemeanor and felony offenses in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He was also a research assistant for Professor Catharine MacKinnon at the University of Michigan Law School. Background and Interests Cooking, hiking, photography, film and music.
