Aminder Kaur Mangat, B.A., LL.B., is a Canadian Barrister & Solicitor and a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. She is the founder and head legal counsel at AKM Law.
Aminder obtained her BA with Honours from the University of Manitoba majoring in Religious Studies. During this time she gained an understanding and compassion for many cultures and has chosen to pursue a career in social justice and advocacy. She graduated law school top of her class from the University of West London. Aminder has volunteered at the Mississauga Legal Clinic, Elizabeth Fry Toronto and Victim Services of Toronto to provide help to those in need of guidance and legal assistance.
Aminder has an extensive background in immigration matters and has worked for one of the top Toronto Immigration firms. Aminder has conducted numerous refugee detention reviews achieving excellent results. In one case, Aminder’s creative and unique approach and excellent advocacy skills obtained an unprecedented decision over the CBSA. Shortly after her appearance, Immigration Canada announced it would accept GPS monitoring as a condition of release for detainees, which had prior to that been vigorously opposed.
