Lee Bergstein was a city and state prosecutor for almost nine years before starting Bergstein Flynn. During his time at the New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG), Lee was assigned to the Criminal Enforcement and Financial Crimes Bureau where he led complex white collar investigations including:
- Fraudulent Offering of Securities
- Ponzi schemes
- Stock market manipulation
- Residential mortgage fraud
- Whistleblower investigations
- Insurance Fraud
While at the OAG, Lee worked closely with other bureaus to tackle complex issues which required an intimate understanding of both the civil and criminal white collar landscape. Lee was an early member of a real estate task force which identified and investigated developers, landlords, attorneys, title companies and other individuals or entities who conspired to defraud banks, government entities and unsuspecting homeowners. Lee also was a member of the trial team which prosecuted and convicted a network of individuals who defrauded prospective nurses. Prior to his time at the Attorney General, Lee worked for over six years at the Queens County District Attorney’s Office where he handled the prosecution of countless violent and nonviolent crimes including:
- Attempted Murder
- Robbery
- Burglary
- DWI
- Grand Larceny
Lee has tried dozens of criminal cases to verdict and negotiated hundreds to plea settlement. In addition to his litigation experience, Lee has taught and tutored prospective lawyers for many years. From 2011 through 2014, Lee served as an Adjunct Professor of Law for Trial Advocacy at the Hofstra University School of Law. More recently, Lee served as a guest instructor of Trial Advocacy at Columbia Law School. Lee has also tutored law students on Evidence, Criminal Law, Legal Writing and Torts. Lee graduated from Brooklyn Law School where he earned his Juris Doctorate. He studied Television and Film at Syracuse University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree.
