Lisa Solomon, Esq. Legal Research & Writing

Comprehensive Legal Research and Writing Services for Attorneys As you manage every other aspect of your clients' complex matters, you may find that comprehensive, in-depth legal research and concise, well-reasoned legal writing are just too labor intensive to take on yourself. In some cases, it may simply be a matter of time—you're in the middle of a trial and need case law to support an evidentiary or substantive point; or you have to make or respond to a post-trial motion in a timely manner. In other instances, your decision whether to even take on a case depends on the answers to legal issues you've identified, and you need help finding those answers. Since 1996, I have focused my practice exclusively on assisting attorneys with all of their legal research and writing needs, including preparing and arguing appeals and drafting substantive motions and trial memoranda. I work in almost every area of law, teaming with my clients to determine the best strategy to apply to the unique facts and legal issues in each case. A Proactive and Personalized Approach to Legal Analysis When you are faced with a motion, appeal, or legal research issue, you need to know more than the black letter law—you need to know how that law applies to the unique facts of your case. I never give you a 'canned' brief; all of my work is customized, to be of most use to the busy attorneys who use my services. I also take a proactive approach to identifying legal issues beyond the scope of the original assignment that may be crucial to the ultimate success of the project, helping you to be the most effective advocate for your client. Special Expertise in Computerized Legal Research As an educational specialist with Lexis-Nexis from 1995 to 1996, I was able to finely hone my computerized research skills to an extent that is unique for attorneys in private practice. Additionally, I worked as On-Line Research Manager for Legal Authorities Network, a company that provided legal research and writing services to corporations and law firms, from 1995 to 1997. During that time, I developed protocols for and performed cost-efficient legal research. As an attorney concentrating exclusively in legal research and writing since 1996, I have continued to build and refine my computerized legal research skills. Of course, I also have experience with and access to a full range of “hard copy” materials. My extensive background in legal research and writing lends my practice a distinct edge—not only to the scope and depth of my skills, but also to the efficiency with which I can complete any project. The cost-effectiveness of my approach is an added benefit to my clients. Civil Litigation Experience Unlike many attorneys who concentrate in research and writing but have limited practical experience, I also have general litigation experience. I practiced as an associate from 1993 through 1995 for the New York City law firm of Wohl & Entwistle LLP, where I drafted documents for all phases of civil litigation including pleadings, discovery, motion practice and appeals, and participated in discovery and settlement conferences. I also handle oral argument in connection with most of the New York appeals on which I work. This “real world” experience enables me to quickly get to the heart of the issues in each case and to craft clear, concise and persuasive briefs.
