He is a 1985 graduate of Denton High School, and received his Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance from Texas A & M University in 1989. His interests led him to attend law school, and in 1992 Scott received his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law. He returned to Denton to practice real estate law at a few select law firms in the Denton County area before forming Alagood & Cartwright, P.C., in 2003 with his law partner, Brian T. Cartwright.
Scott Alagood received his board certification in Residential and Commercial Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2001 and has been honored by his peers and legal publications throughout his legal career. Scott was named a "Texas Super Lawyer" as published by Thomson Reuters for Texas Monthly Magazine in 2014, 2013, 2012, 2004, and 2003. In 2012, 2011 and 2010 he received the prestigious AV Preeminent rating (Top) by Martindale-Hubbell and was awarded a 10.0 Superb AVVO rating. The law firm of Alagood & Cartwright, P.C., was voted one of the Best of Denton 2012, Best Law Firms, by the readers of the Denton Record Chronicle. In 2013, Scott was named the Best Civil Lawyer in Denton County by the readers of GoPages Magazine. Scott is a past President of the Denton County Young Lawyers Association and currently serves as a Director for the Denton County Bar Association.
In addition to his thriving law practice, Scott is involved in the local Community. Scott currently serves as Chairman of the Denton County Lake Ray Roberts Planning Commission, and serves on First State Bank's Advisory Board for Denton County, Texas. Scott is also a member of the State Bar of Texas, Denton County Bar Association, and Denton County Bar Associations Real Estate, Trust and Probate Law Sections, and the Denton Chamber of Commerce. Scott also authors a monthly column in the Denton Business Chronicle published by the Denton Record Chronicle.
