Jonathan T. Stender www.dworkenlaw.com/attorneys/associates/jonathan-stender/ focuses his practice on representing injured workers in workers' compensation and occupational safety and health matters.  He also represents employees in a wide spectrum of labor and employment matters, including FLSA, FMLA, civil rights, discrimination, wrongful discharge, and intentional torts.

Jonathan graduated cum laude with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Russian Language and Literature and Political Science/International Relations from the University of Washington in 1994.  He received a Juris Doctor degree from Case Western Reserve University Law School in 1998.  At Case, Jonathan was executive editor of the Journal of International Law, a member of the National Moot Court Team, and recipient of the prestigious Dunmore Award, for excellence in appellate advocacy.

Prior to practicing law, Jonathan served as a Cryptologic Special Operations Team supervisor in the Naval Security Group, United States Navy.  He is the author of "Challenges to the Control of Strong Crypto and the National Security Perspective," 30 Case W. Res. J. Int'l Law 287 (1998), and is a certified Russian interpreter and translator.

Jonathan also has written and spoken on a wide range of employment and workers' compensation issues.  Recent publications include, "Navigating The Minefield Of Military Leave," "Ohio Drug Testing Law Covering Workplace Injuries Ruled Unconstitutional," and "ADA Direct Threat - The Supreme Court Has Finally Spoken."

www.dworkenlaw.com Dworken & Bernstein offers a full range of legal services for businesses, individuals, and families in litigation and transactions with offices in Painesville and downtown Cleveland. Dworken & Bernstein is the largest law firm in the Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula County area.

www.ohiolawyersgiveback.org Ohio Lawyers Give Back was founded by Dworken & Bernstein Co., L.P.A. to promote the use of cy pres in class action settlements. When a class action is settled, plaintiff and defendant agree to a fund amount to pay all class members. Since many class members have moved, passed-away, or can't be found, millions of settlement dollars go unclaimed. That settlement money is intended to benefit the class—rather than revert to the wrongdoing defendant—so the ancient doctrine is now being used to distribute the unclaimed money to charities and non profits.

Over $22 million dollars has already been distributed, just by the sponsors, a single law firm. If cy pres were used more broadly, hundreds of millions of dollars each year would be available to help charities, non-profits, and the communities where we live. This website is dedicated to advancing the use of cy pres in all class action settlements where a large pool of unclaimed settlement funds is expected.
