David Brezina

Dave Brezina is of counsel in the Chicago office of Ladas & Parry LLP. As a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Department he handles patent, trademark and copyright applications, as well as litigation and licensing. Dave is also a member of the firm’s Sports and Entertainment Law Group and has represented sports and recreational product clients in matters involving golf, tennis, fishing, bowling, skiing, bicycling, soccer, rugby and boating. For more than 20 years, Dave has taught law courses including “Entrepreneurship: Basic Business Principles” and “Entertainment Law” in the Management Department of Columbia College in Chicago. He compiled the text and has also taught “Legal Aspects of Entertainment, Publishing and the Arts.” Dave has been an adjunct professor in the Center for Intellectual Property Law of The John Marshall Law School in Chicago for more than 10 years. He teaches “Antitrust and Misuse Aspects of Intellectual Property Law” using a text he compiled. At John Marshall, Mr. Brezina has participated in other academic activities, including judging the John Marshall Accelerated Trial Advocacy class and reviewing papers for the Gerald Rose Memorial Competition. Dave has lectured frequently and published numerous articles on patents, trademarks, copyrights and other topics for both legal and trade publications. Dave received his B.S.S. in political science from Cornell College with undergraduate scientific training concentrated in oceanography. He was a legislative intern in the 66th Iowa State General Assembly. Dave earned his J.D. with honors from the Illinois Institute of Technology–Chicago Kent College of Law in 1978 and a LL.M. in intellectual property law from The John Marshall Law School in 1988. Dave is past chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s Patent, Trademark and Copyright Committee. He has been active in the Chicago, Illinois and American Bar Associations, as well as the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago. Dave is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. Supreme Court and other U.S. courts. He is registered before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
