Raised in Amarillo, Texas, Ms. Shilpa Shah attended Southern Methodist University and received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in May of 1992. She received the Dean’s Scholar Award in 1992 from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and in May of 1995 received her Juris Doctor degree, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, in Cleveland, Ohio. During law school, Ms. Shah served as a Law Review Editor. She was published in the Cleveland State Law Review and received numerous awards, including the Howard L. Oleck Award for distinguished legal writing by a student.

Upon graduation from law school and admission to the Ohio bar in 1995, Ms. Shah joined the Cleveland headquarters of a national law firm and began her practice in the areas of labor and employment law, business law, and litigation. In 1997, Ms. Shah returned back to Amarillo, where she was admitted to the Texas Bar. She spent the 1997-1998 academic year as a Legal Practice Professor at Texas Tech University School of Law where she taught legal research and writing.

Ms. Shah has been an active member of the Amarillo community for the past 13 years. Since 2003, she has volunteered her time with several students, some of whom were recent immigrants aspiring to improve their English skills, as a tutor at the Adult Literacy House. She served on the Potter-Randall Appraisal Review Board for three consecutive years from 2004 through 2006. In 2006, Ms. Shah completed a forty-hour basic mediation course and received additional training in family law mediations. She has been serving as a volunteer mediator for the Dispute Resolution Center, primarily in the area of family law, since 2006.

As the daughter of Indian immigrant parents, Ms. Shah also has strong ties to the local Indian community. She served as Secretary of the Indian Association of Amarillo for the 2002 and 2003 terms and served on the Board of Directors for the Hindu Temple of Amarillo from 2003 through 2008.

Ms. Shah is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and most recently attended the AILA national conference held in Washington D.C. and the fall conference held in San Antonio, Texas. Ms. Shah is also a member of The College of the State Bar of Texas, an honorary society established by order of the Texas Supreme Court in 1981 recognizing attorneys who have shown a commitment to professionalism through significant voluntary participation in legal education.
