William Birks

William J. Birks Jr. & Associates is a professional security consultancy dedicated to providing quality results to business, industry and law firms.  We specialize in providing security advice as well as expert testimony and litigation support in the areas of security adequacy, forseeability and premises liability. The Principal has been active in business and the protection of assets for the last thirty plus years, acquiring substantial business acumen in a host of environments. Beginning as a trained undercover operative he gained a real-life appreciation for the types of risk that organizations face when policies, processes, and security funding are lacking. He continued to gain and hold positions of increasing responsibility until obtaining the director of security/safety position within that organization.

During that same period he became involved with local and national organizations becoming Chair of the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Loss Prevention Committee and the Chair of the Philadelphia chapter of ASIS International, (formally known as the American Society for Industrial Security). His interest in achieving higher education in the security profession was rewarded in 1985 when he was certified in Security Management via examination by ASIS International and received the designation of Certified Protection Professional; over the next twenty-five years he continued to successfully renew that certification nine consecutive times. 

Mr. Birks has gone on to serve as a vice president for a prominent psychological company whose core business was integrity assessment. During his lengthy security career he has held the position of security/safety director, senior director of corporate security/safety and chief security officer for three multi-national organizations.

 

In the aforementioned capacities he was charged with the responsibility of identifying security related risk within those organizations and to manage that risk by developing and implementing strategies to mitigate and avoid those risks.

 

Mr. Birks has had the honor of speaking nationally to groups and other professional organizations on a number of security topics, he has also lectured extensively at several colleges and universities including the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
