She practiced law in the field of regulated health care for nine years in Madison, Wisconsin, representing such clients as the State Medical Society of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Association of Nursing Homes, and a number of health care practitioners. In 1988, Ms. Vanden Berk left the practice of law to become president of a residential treatment center for children, and she stayed in the field of nonprofit management for nine years.
