Johns practice is dedicated to representing victims of medical malpractice, childhood sexual abuse claim and serious personal injury.
John was plaintiff's counsel in Bernard v. Canada, a class action against the Catholic Church and Canada on behalf of 500 former residents of the Shubenacadie Indian Residential School, in a class action for compensation for childhood physical, sexual and racial abuse.
John is a member of the steering committee of the national class action, Baxter vs. Canada. Baxter is the largest class action settlement in Canadian history and the largest historical redress settlement in the world.
John is class counsel in Martin v. Diocese of Antigonish a 15 million dollar class action against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Antigonish on behalf of victims of sexual abuse by priests of the Antigonish Diocese.
John has successfully argued cases before the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and various administrative tribunals including the Ontario Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.
John is Vice President of the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association and a member in good standing of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society and the Canadian Bar Association.
John has written papers and presented lectures in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Singapore on various issues pertaining to personal injury law, class actions, abuse claims and institutional liability to a variety of groups including the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society Continuing Education Lecture Series, the Canadian Bar Association, The Canadian Institute, the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers’ Association and the International Bar Association.
