JACQUELINE HAROUNIAN is a partner at Wisselman, Harounian & Associates, P.C. in Great Neck, which is consistently ranked as one of the Top Matrimonial and Family law firms on Long Island (Long Island Business News, 2006-2009).
Jackie graduated cum laude from Columbia College with joint B.A. degrees in Middle Eastern Languages and English Literature. She obtained her law degree from Hofstra Law School, via an accelerated two year Juris Doctor program, in the top 10% of her graduating class.
She began working with her partner, Jerome A. Wisselman, as an intern during law school, and became an associate in his firm in August, 1995, upon her admission to the New York Bar. She became a partner in the firm in 2006. Jackie concentrates in matrimonial litigation, appearing on custody, divorce, and support matters in the Family and Supreme Courts throughout Long Island and the five boroughs of New York City. Jackie also handles guardianship and contested Surrogate’s Court matters, as well as residential and commercial real estate transactions, civil litigation and appellate matters.
Jackie has been honored with the Long Island Women’s Agenda Leader Award (2009); Long Island Business News “40 Under 40" Award (2009), Hadassah “Woman of Valor” Award (2008); Town of North Hempstead Roll of Honor (2008); the Fortune 52 Award (2007); and the Soroptomist International “Women Making a Difference Award” (2007). She has received numerous citations from county, town and state public officials for her community service and pro bono legal work.
A writer and speaker in her areas of expertise, Jackie has had many articles published, has appeared on television, radio and news media as an expert in her field, and has presented and participated in many seminars. Jackie is an active lecturer and speaker on topics including domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, and financial issues of divorce. She was invited to appear on Good Morning America to discuss prenuptial agreements, and has appeared on several cable television programs. She has presented family law issues as an expert at CW Post’s Mental Health Symposium and at SUNY Stonybrook, and has trained other attorneys for CLE credit. She is currently teaching law students at Hofstra Law School in Family Law Skills. Jackie has made several trips to Albany to lobby legislators with regard to family issues.
Jackie has a sincere concern for her clients, and is especially sensitive to issues affecting families. She is well regarded as an attorney who advocates strongly on behalf of her clients, whether by negotiating a settlement, or through litigation. Her goal is to provide her clients with the best possible legal services and to address their concerns in a focused, professional and cost-effective manner.
Outside her practice, Jackie finds a way to give her time, effort, and professional advice to various non-profit organizations. She currently serves on the Emerging Leaders Committee and Legislative Affairs Committee of LIWA. She also serves on the Executive Boards of Sepharadic Heritage Alliance, Inc. (S.H.A.I.), based in Great Neck, as well as Columbia College Admissions and Recruitment, and Hofstra School of Law Alumnae Association. She enjoys participating in mentoring programs for young women and students seeking careers in law, including the Great Neck Public Schools shadowing program.
While Jackie thoroughly enjoys her career, her true pride and joy is her family. Jackie and her husband of 20 years, Maurice, reside in Kings Point, New York, with their four children, who attend Great Neck Public Schools.
