Petrov was born in Ukraine, and in 1989 he moved to California with his family, and he has lived there ever since. In 2004, he graduated from the San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration.

He attended the California Western School of Law in San Diego where he earned his Juris Doctorate Degree in 2007. Three months later he has admitted to the California State Bar after passing the bar exam. In 2014, he founded Petrov Personal Injury Lawyers. He specializes in estate planning and personal injury.
