Larry Lawton
Larry Lawton, Attorney
I am admitted to practice law in Wyoming and California, and was authorized as in-house counsel by the Hong Kong Legal Society.
My career principally was devoted to litigation, beginning as a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles, where I stopped counting after I'd won my 50th jury trial.
In private practice, I spent decades litigating civil cases, eventually gravitating to the defense of architects, engineers and attorneys who were sued for malpractice.
My final position was supervising litigation as a civilian "JAG" for the United States Air Force. My responsibility was environmental litigation. I was assigned to the Office of The Regional Counsel in San Francisco. My territory was the western third of the United States.
We retired in 2005, but I was asked to come out of retirement in 2011, and served my faith as Associate Area Legal Counsel in Hong Kong, where I did legal work in 26 countries in Asia. I spent most of my time doing humanitarian agreements, enabling unpaid missionaries to bring water to rural villages, medical care to underserved areas and even wheelchairs to those without the money to buy one.
Since accepting an appointment as a part-time Municipal Judge, I have strictly limited my practice to a few probates. In general, I will not accept a probate unless the estate exceeds $1,000,000 in value.
