Alex M. Hendler is the founder and CEO of ontolawgy™ LLC. Alex is an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia. Alex has advised businesses and State and federal officials on complex statutory and regulatory systems, particularly relating to health care regulation and reimbursement
Alex is the lead developer of the ontolawgy™ platform, an internet-based legal analysis system that he originally developed for his own practice to improve the efficiency of statutory and regulatory research in Medicare reimbursement and regulation. The ontolawgy™ platform is designed to mimic in a database the thought processes that attorneys use to analyze the law. Storing the information this way allows attorneys to intuitively access and analyze complex information to allow them to work with optimum efficiency.
This information is then shared with clients, not only in the form of traditional legal work products such as transactional documents or memoranda, but also as a hosted knowledge management system that allows clients to access and link to the same materials used by ontolawgy™. The goal is to help clients better leverage internal and external knowledge using software that is familiar to everyone: A web browser.
Why is this approach helpful? Just as an example, how many times have you read about some nebulous "policy" or "legal requirement" in your organization's internal documents without any reference to the actual source of that policy or requirement? Using ontolawgy™ makes that uncertainty a thing of the past by linking the documents and the requirements to each other. If you look up the requirement, you find the policy, and vice-versa. Result: You focus on running your business, not running after data that you already have.
