David Sheuerman has handled over 1,000 medical malpractice cases in defense of hospitals, physicians and other health care and medical device providers in numerous fields of medicine. He has also defended hundreds of cases involving elder and dependant abuse, hospital staff privilege issues and physician and other provider licensing matters both in the courts and before the Medical Board of California, and before multiple other licensing boards. These cases include over 100 medical malpractice Superior Court jury trials and arbitrations. He also specializes in defending complex and catastrophic personal injury cases, a topic on which he has taught for the Defense Research Institute. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley (1973) and his law degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law (1977). Mr. Sheuerman has been a frequent lecturer to health care practitioners and attorneys in various specialties on the national, state and local level, including those at Stanford University Medical Center and various hospital, nursing and physician groups. He has lectured at law schools on the subject of medical malpractice and personal injury and has taught multiple programs for the California Continuing Education of the Bar. Mr. Sheuerman has given invited lectures at International meetings on medical ethics. His publications include a chapter on medico-legal issues in perinatal brain injury cases in Fetal and Neonatal Brain Injury [3 rd ed.]. He has served as a member of various Santa Clara County Medical Society panels and committees. At the request of both the plaintiff and defense bar, Mr. Sheuerman acts as a private mediator or arbitrator in health care, products liability and complex personal injury litigation. He has served on multiple Santa Clara County Bar Association committees. Mr. Sheuerman holds the highest [AV] rating for ethics and professional ability from Martindale-Hubbell and is listed among Martindale's preeminent lawyers. He is one of 50 attorneys in California specializing in medical malpractice to comprise the invited membership of the California Medical-Legal Committee. Mr. Sheuerman was board certified in 1990 as a civil trial specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is an elected member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). For multiple years, in surveys of practicing attorneys Mr.Sheuerman has been voted to Northern California Super Lawyers and is named in The Best Lawyers in America.
