Cohen, Salk & Huvard, P.C. is a 7-lawyer firm providing in-depth representation to clients in select, concentrated areas: we are listed as approved lending counsel and regularly engaged by major Chicago-area banks and financial institutions in secured lending and real estate transactions; we serve private entrepreneurial clients in a broad array of real estate acquisitions, construction and new development; and we serve as village attorney and special counsel to municipalities in complex land use and redevelopment projects. Bennett Cohen, Bruce Salk and Bruce Huvard are the principals of the firm. The firm's existence dates back to 1946, when Bennett Cohen's father developed a widely respected secured lending expertise. The firm has represented some of our financial institution clients for over 45 years. Bennett L. Cohen, born Chicago, Illinois, January 16, 1952; admitted to Oregon Bar, 1977, Illinois Bar and U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, 1978. Education: University of Oregon (B.A., 1974; J.D., 1977). Bennett has concentrated his practice in commercial lending during his twenty-seven years in practice. He regularly represents large and small banks, finance companies, and other financial institutions in the negotiation, documentation and closing of commercial lending transactions, including asset-based loans, leveraged corporate acquisitions, commercial real estate mortgage and construction loans, letters of credit transactions, and commercial equipment lease financing transactions. He served for fifteen years as general counsel to the Midwest Association of Secured Lenders, a trade association of over eighty banks and finance companies located in Chicago and outlying areas. Bennett is also a frequent lecturer on commercial lending topics for lending associations. Bennett is a member of the American Bar Association and serves on the ABA Committee on Commercial Financial Services and the ABA Subcommittees on Secured Lending and Loan Documentation. He is also on the American Bar Association Joint Task Force on Deposit Account Control Agreements.
