PROFESSIONAL PROFILE Cory Spence joined Kirkland & Ellis' Chicago Office in 2002. As a senior intellectual property associate, Mr. Spence works primarily on complex IP litigation matters. He also provides strategic IP counseling advice during all phases of product design, development and/or improvement. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has worked on matters involving a wide variety of technologies such as computer processing, automotive design, nutritional compositions, electronic check conversion, reservation networks, nucleic acid detection, and electronic gaming. His broad academic background includes study and research in chemistry, physics, biology, and engineering. In 2005, Mr. Spence was selected to attend a one-year attorney exchange between Kirkland & Ellis and the international law firm of Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu in Tokyo, Japan. While in Japan, Mr. Spence assisted in further developing K&E's Asia Pacific practice and worked on a wide array of transactional, litigation, and counseling matters involving complex technology. Prior to joining Kirkland & Ellis, Mr. Spence served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force Medical Service Corps and later worked in the chemical manufacturing industry in technical sales and product management.
