Daniel M. Shafer of EJS Law is a Silicon Valley-based attorney handling intellectual property matters, business disputes, and casino gaming cases. He focuses primarily on civil litigation, including patent, trade secret, trademark, employment, and contract cases. He is also integral to EJS Law's unique practice area representing high-roller casino patrons in matters involving casino credit and marker collections. Mr. Shafer rounds out his practice with a significant amount of trademark prosecution work and entertainment law consulting,.
Mr. Shafer has teamed with firm founder Eric J. Sidebotham since 2003, when both worked for the noted San Jose litigation firm McManis Faulkner & Morgan (now McManis Faulkner). He joined EJS Law shortly after its inception in 2004. One of his key responsibilities has been management of Paton vs. Advanced Micro Devices, a complex employment class action in which EJS Law represents a class of over 1,400 former employees of a large technology company. The case is ongoing, and is currently on appeal before California's Sixth Appellate District.
Mr. Shafer is a member of the State Bar of California; the Santa Clara County Bar Association; and the American Bar Association, including the ABA sections for Intellectual Property, Entertainment Law and Business Law. He is admitted to practice in all California state courts, and in the federal courts of the Northern and Eastern Districts of California.
Born in Canada and raised in Silicon Valley, Mr. Shafer spends his spare moments playing keyboards in various musical groups. He performs in nightclubs, concerts, and festivals throughout the Bay Area and beyond, and appears on about a dozen commercially-released CDs.
