Mr. Thornton grew up in the South and graduated from the University of North Alabama with a Bachelor's of Science in Music. He attended school on a full music scholarship and interned on the famous Music Row in Nashville. While in college, he served on the school judicial board and student government, contributed to the school paper, and worked in professional music engagements. He minored in business. He graduated from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. During law school, he clerked with the Shelby County Public Defender's Office.
In his practice as a criminal defense attorney, Mr. Thornton carefully investigates the circumstances of each person’s situation and crafts a strategy that is tailored to their needs. Sometimes this involves invoking the procedural protections available to defendants under the U.S. Constitution. People who have been charged with a crime are guaranteed certain rights, such as the right to refrain from self-incrimination, the right to confront the prosecution’s witnesses, and the right to a speedy trial. All citizens also have a right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures of their person or property. It is critical to take these protections seriously and to hold police or prosecutors accountable when they violate them.
While your personal freedom is not at stake in a family law proceeding, the future of your loved ones is just as important. Child custody disputes are often some of the most complex and contested features of a divorce proceeding. Mr. Thornton can help you seek to persuade a court why the custody arrangement that you prefer will be in your child’s best interests, and he can also assist you with protecting the assets that you have worked hard to accumulate over the course of your life. Even if you agree with your spouse on most of the key issues in your divorce, consulting a knowledgeable family law attorney is an important step to take in ensuring that your interests are safeguarded and that you make strategic decisions to facilitate your needs and goals.
Mr. Thornton belongs to the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers' Association and the Collin County Criminal Defense Lawyers' Association. He represents people in Plano, Dallas, Richardson, Addison, Garland, Murphy, Mesquite, Allen, Frisco, and McKinney, as well as other cities throughout Collin, Dallas, Rockwall, and Kaufman Counties. When he is not working for his clients, he enjoys spending time with his family, horseback riding, hunting, and playing music.
