Samantha L. Upton

After spending her first year out of law school managing e-discovery for major pharmaceutical litigation, Samantha joined Weiland Upton in the days when it was known as “Caddell, Nelson and Reibach” and later as “Caddell Weiland” (before Nelson, Reibach, and Caddell were all appointed as local judges). She is very proud to be a part of the 20+ year history of this law firm and to have the opportunity to carry on her predecessors’ legacy of providing top-notch representation for her clients.

Samantha has successfully handled hundreds of traffic cases including DUI charges, DUI-drug charges, Driving on Suspended, Eluding (Felony and Misdemeanor), Hit and Run (Felony and Misdemeanor), Aggressive Driving, High-Speed Reckless Driving, and Drug Possession (Felony and Misdemeanor) connected to traffic stops, along with lesser traffic violations such as Speeding Tickets and Minor Accidents. Samantha also handles Underage Possession of Alcohol, Fake ID, and Possession of Marijuana cases.

Samantha recognizes every client is more than a case file. DUI and other serious traffic charges can be overwhelming, having significant impacts on her client’s lives and livelihoods and even the most minor of traffic cases can be very stressful. She takes an empathetic, but very straight-forward approach with clients and combines legal expertise with appropriate mitigation strategies to develop a case-specific plan for each client. She also understands that maintaining good relationships with the Courts, Judges, Prosecutors, and Law-Enforcement Officers in the jurisdictions where she practices is an important aspect of representing her clients.

When she’s not practicing law, Samantha serves as President of The Tredegar Society, tries to relive her Fastpitch Softball glory days on the Slowpitch Field, explores Richmond’s restaurant scene, and spends time with her Italian Greyhound named Winston.
