John A. Holtaway is the Client Protection Counsel at the American Bar Association Center for Professional Responsibility. He received a B.A. from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and a J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law. Mr. Holtaway directs all work to fulfill the Association’s goals to develop and strengthen client protection mechanisms, programs for client-lawyer fee arbitration, mediation and to address issues related to the multijurisdictional practice of law and nonlawyer activity. During 2000-2002, he also served as Staff Counsel to the ABA Commission on Multijurisdictional Practice. Prior to joining the ABA, Mr. Holtaway was engaged in the private practice of law with a Chicago law firm where he concentrated his practice in the defense of disciplinary cases involving all licensed professionals. Before entering private practice, he was Senior Counsel with the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois.
