She is admitted to the California and Washington State Bars and to the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Yee’s tax-exempt organizations practice focuses on obtaining and maintaining tax-exempt status for non-profit organizations (including mutual benefit, public benefit, and private foundation groups), and counseling on corporate governance and operational issues such as the effect of unrelated business activities on tax-exempt status, fiduciary obligations of the board of directors and conflict of interest issues. She received Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of California, Berkeley in Economics and Sociology in 1983, and graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Law in the Winter of 1987. She later earned a LL.M in Taxation from the University of Washington School of Law. Ms. Yee also holds a Masters in City and Regional Planning, focusing on project development from the University of California, Berkeley. Ms. Yee has served as a judicial extern for Justice Warren Matthews of the Alaska Supreme Court and has worked for a prominent international law firm. She is a board member of Leadership San Francisco and a founding board member of Hearth Homes. She is a past chairperson of the Mayor’s Mission Bay Citizens’ Advisory Committee and San Francisco Enterprise Community Board. Ms. Yee frequently volunteers with and advises local civic and nonprofit organizations on governance, planning and operational issues. Prior to joining Minami Tamaki LLP, Ms. Yee was the Deputy Director of the Mayor’s Office of Community Development in San Francisco, where she worked extensively with San Francisco non–profit organizations, and developed strategic plans, grant making policies, and financing strategies to address community economic development and physical infrastructure issues in San Francisco.
