State Bar Disciplinary Charges are Not Dischargeable in Bankruptcy

In State Bar of California v. Findley (In re Findley), 593 F.3d 1048 (9th Cir. 2010), the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals held that disciplinary costs imposed by the State Bar of California are punitive in nature, and hence, they are not dischargeable in bankruptcy pursuant to 11 U.S.C. § 523(a)(7).
