FDA Issues New Cautionary Guidelines for Metal-on-Metal Hip Implants, Parker Waichman LLP Reports

Parker Waichman LLP reports that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued new guidelines for patients with metal-on-metal hip implants. According to the agency’s Safety Communication, metal particles released from the implant through wear can cause damage to the bone and/or tissue surrounding the hip joint; patients who have symptoms indicating that their implant is not working properly should be considered for metal ion testing.
