On Saturday, October 13-2012, a fire sparked in part of the historical big Omayyad mosque in Aleppo after Assad military forces used the mosque complex as a base of operations. SEO urges UNESCO and the international community to exert additional efforts to protect the Syrian heritage and the ancient sites.
