Opposition to Exxon Mobil's petition to the Supreme Court
In 2001, eleven Indonesian villagers sued Exxon Mobil Corporation and an entity related to the Indonesian government, in the U.S. District Court, District of Columbia, seeking damages for various torts. Exxon Mobil brought a motion to dismiss the tort claims on political question grounds, which the District Court did not grant on these grounds. Exxon Mobil appealed to the D.C. Circuit, but this court did not reach the merits. Exxon Mobil filed a petition for writ of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court. Repondents filed this opposition brief.
