Tribal Corp. selling Millions of Cigarettes in Calif. is Subject to Personal Jurisdiction in Calif.
Defendant is an Indian tribal-chartered corporation with headquarters in a New York Indian reservation. Defendant is wholly owned by a Native American. Defendant imported cigarettes from a tribal Indian manufacturer located in Canada into the United States, and sold a hundreds of millions of its cigarettes to an Indian tribe in California, who in turn distributed the cigarettes to the California public. Held: Based on this activity, Defendant is subject to personal jurisdiction in California courts.
